Spirituality

What is Spirituality?

Spirituality is an awareness of what makes me, ‘me’!

The relationships that we have with ourselves, those around us, God and the world supports our spiritual development.

We recognise that life is a journey and we understand that our spirituality will change and grow as we physically change and grow.

Our School Vision and Spirituality

Our school vision articulates the importance of ‘growing’ individuals who are ‘ready to make a difference to the world around them’.

At St John’s, all individuals should feel included, safe, secure and valued.  We all have the right to live in the way that we wish to, whilst at the same time, respecting the views and opinions of others.

Windows, Mirrors, Doors

The ‘Windows, Mirrors, Doors” concept is a framework for understanding and fostering spiritual development.

“Love is the flickering light in someone’s heart that gives you the power to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Windows

‘Look out’ and be aware of the world in new ways – what makes you wonder?  What fills your heart with joy?  What concerns you?

We learn about life in all its fullness through lives of inspirational people, stories, music and art.

 Mirrors

Provide opportunities for children to consider their responses to the world around them.

Consider life’s big questions and recognise that their responses are valid and valued because none of us have the answers.

Doors

How will you respond?  Will you respond creatively, pray or show curiosity?

It’s the way that we react which shapes ‘us’ and dictates the type of people we will become.

We want members of our school community to recognise that we can all make a difference.  If something in the world seems unfair then what can we do about it?
